I have heard loads of stories about these saites taking personal information from you - by hacking into your computer from ur IP address that comes up when you register - so I wont register on these sites - and for those that are registered - do be careful....

Erm, Firstly, I think it's very unlikely that any of theses high profile websites will do anthing malicious to it's users. Secondly, now please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but being able to 'hack' into your computer purly from you IP address is impossible.

CLICK ME TO REVEAL YOUR IP ADDRESS

Now unless you have executed a program (virus) which enables one of these sites to gain access to you're computer you're fine.

I'm not a computer buff and I'm going on knowlegde I've picked up so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, or misinformed

Ok, sorry, I didnt mean to be nasty with it - its just thats what i heard - and although I am not one to believe the media, I was informed of this from a couple of people - most being computer engineers.....but have in said all that - you seem pretty sure of what your saying - so I am inclined to believe you :-)

lol No worries.

As I said above, I'm not a computer buff so I could be wrong, but I'm going to stick by my guns and say I'm not..

MattyLFC off Cruisewirral will be able to tell you the facts and fiction regarding the above.

you CAN hack into a computer from just purely an IP address

but if you are like me, then you have a router or modem before your pc, so they should only be able to get as far as that

this is why people are advised to have anti-virus and firewall programs installed on thier PCs/Laptops

How can you connect to the internet without a modem before your PC?

Do you not need to have a trojan already installed in the computer to be able to do anything?

Fair enough. How can you hack just using and IP? I'm not disputing the fact that maybe you can! I was under the impression that the IP address is just a number assigned to that user (which changes every time you turn you're modem off and on again) nothing more.

I wont sign up to the sites for that reason, I am sorry to say - but I do have a router - so I should be ok....but its just the point that they can get my information if they really wanted to - especially as I buy online all the time, but only on protected sites :-)
